Most of the coal boats (colliers) which came up the canal from British ports were Fisher owned. The early ones were usually named after local places (Clonallan, Warrenpoint, Greencastle) but the later ones were named after trees – Oak, Ash, Elm, Aspen etc. Over the years four boats disappeared without trace – e.g. the Clonallon out of Swansea in 1904.
