Now this was bad. I knew that I had no chance of raising the lid, as he was the heavier of the two of us. Besides if he turned the screws home, that was it for me!
The Coffin
During the Sixties we had a range of local businesses with a dual aspect to them; like, a grocery shop and a pub; or maybe, a hardware shop with petrol pumps outside on the pavement.

Our parents were never happy; they fought constantly like politicians exchanging insults to the bitter end. For the greater part of our childhood their relationship was marked by angry verbal encounters in a daily war of attrition.
