We were in Dublin to celebrate our achieving more than 100,000 visitors on Newry Journal. The aul’ mate Keano wanted to share the photo-opportunity. What can one do? ‘I believe you have something yourself to celebrate. Ireland’s highest goal-scorer ever!’ ‘No comparison,’ he generously conceded. ‘You’re my main man!’

Ballymoyer Walk
We chose to take the Ballymoyer Walk and it was great. The weather held out, the craic was good and the guide – an old friend, May Rice, as it happens – was excellent. The Cooley group had the worst of the weather. Tomorrow, the Lapin Trail.
Warrenpoint/Rostrevor show 3
Our Ladies Centenary
In 1987 Our Ladies School celebrated one hundred years and produced an anniversary booklet. These slides show the school front, and two groups of pupils as well as the staff of that time. Our Ladies has since moved to a magnificant new School on an adjacent site. Hope you recognise some faces!
Cooley Peninsula Slideshow
This latestest slideshow was made for Dan Callaghan of NY, USA who contributed to Guestbook. Fathom Mountain – containing Killeen – out of Newry continues into the Cooley peninsula, famous in legend for the Tain Bo Cuailgne, the Brown Bull of Cooley and Cuchulainn. St John’s Castle is in Carlingford.
Ring of Gullion
The young lady featured here is Katharine Beaven from Kirkwell in Orkney who holidayed here last Summer. The slides include images of the western end of the Ring of Gullion, Sturgan and Camlough Mountains, Mullaghbane and Forkhill, an abandoned nineteenth century homestead and some new house building. The cross is in Lislea cemetery.
Shamrocks Teams/Town Show
The 1956 Shamrocks team is before my time. The later Hurlers included Michael Keenan and Paddy Ward. I’m sure you spotted many more familiar faces! Who are these other young Celtic players? Railway Avenue with pigs is included, and Kilmorey Street by night.
Warrenpoint: for Isobel
This Warrenpoint selection has been created, especially on request, for a dear friend Isobel McMahon (nee Tohill, of Warrenpoint). Best regards to your sisters Phyl, Josephine, Antoinette, and especially to Mary, for an early and full recovery of health. The locations of all these slides is known to everyone! [Now, will you let me win, once in a while?]
Slideshow: Aerial 63: Part 2
By 1963 the Livestock market on Patick Street was discontinued, the site serving as a car park. Note the Tech was not yet constructed, and of course, the Sports Centre. Other views are of Monaghan St, Edward St, Chequer Hill, Cecil Street, Pound Road, John Martin Gardens etc.
