It’s over fifty years ago now. These five girls and one boy posed for the camera perched on a large rock against the backdrop of the old and deserted Willis’s Bakery.
At that time there were two other working bakeries in Newry, McCanns and Inglis’s. They provide work for many Newry people including my uncle, my father and his father before him.
Our picture (sorry for the poor quality) shows (Back l-r) Mary McSherry and sisters Shiela and Rosaleen Holland.
Dennis Holland is flanked by Norah O’Neill and Dodo (Dorothy) McGuigan.
Mary is now Mary Sweeney of Greenan Road and my golfing companion on Thursday mornings.
We go under the aegis of Newry U3A and there’s not a golfer among us.
But the company is wonderful and the craic is great!
