If you are very quick indeed, you might still purchase an advanced copy of Rose Brennan’s CD String of Pearls from the Festival Office, Rostrevor Square! I have my precious copy…
and have secluded myself in my private garret for two days to hear, learn and better appreciate the fabulous songs, fourteen of them, all composed by Rose herself, the glorious harmonies and the infectious vitality of this beautiful performer and her lovely family and friends who support her on this wonderful album.
Rose began writing less than two years ago and she assures me she has at least as many again. Now that excites me. I have not enjoyed a debut female folk album as much since the release of Joni Mitchel’s Lady of the Canyon, over forty years ago.
In fact, that’s a good album to compare … except that Rose’s is Irish and all her songs are local, inspired by love and family and friends. My Dear Rostrevor Town will become a classic, I am certain. Roll Back The Years, John Joe is dear to me also, for that is what I attempt on this site, as you know.
Unfortunately there is not yet a sample of the goods on Youtube (I hope that’s next, for then I’ll add a link) but then again, you can sample Rose’s work by tuning into Colum Sands’ Folk Club on Radio Ulster tonight between 8-9 pm.
The launch proper is in about 6-8 weeks time. By then, I may need a second copy. Do CDs wear out with overplay?
I have been advocating this work for a year now, and eagerly anticipating it.
‘I hope you won’t be disappointed,’ Rose said.
To the contrary.
I am delighted beyond all knowing.
I risk boring my readership – but I intent to return to this album and review it track by track.
Really, you’d save me the bother if you’d just rush out now and purchase a copy.
