You can get too close to a “Beachmaster” sea lion.
This beauty is the chief male of the colony who has sole access to one hundred and fifty females.
I asked my sole wife to have the camera ready as I went to “interview” him.
He made it very clear that he did not want to introduce me to any of his females.
Indeed, he did not want me around at all!
And since we were very far from civilization, and there was no possibility of helicopter evacuation – or rescue from any other quarter, I thought retreat was the best option!
That’s me trying to look dignified in my panic retreat!
